When I lived in Decatur years ago, "homelessness" brought to mind men hanging out on a sidewalk in downtown Atlanta, doing nothing in particular. Sometimes an individual may panhandle, or hold a sign saying "will work for food". Some may preach on the street. Mostly they just hang-out. They may sleep on a sidewalk radiator vent in the winter at night, or seek shelter in a homeless shelter. They may stand in line at a soup kitchen. They may carry a back pack or a sack of sorts, filled with their worldly possessions.
Today, living in Newnan, my impression of homelessness has expanded. Homeless may be a senior living in the home of family members, looking for a place to live independently of family. It may be a senior living in structure, once a house, that is currently an estate in probate court, with family members no where around following the death of the named owners on the title, having left the lone inhabitant in the structure that is falling in around him, with electricity perhaps, when the bill is paid, but there is no plumbing. It may be a millenial facing a substantial hike in rent at an apartment, and unable to find suitable housing that is affordable. It may be a refugee living under a bridge
People need affordable, livable housing, just like they needfood and water.
